Optimizedland

The WSJ describes an interesting software program to help you navigate Disneyland, but why would you put yourself thorough this kind of torture? Going to Dinsneyland (world, whichever) would be fun, but is it really worth it if the hassle is so great? Why not see the real land (world, whichever)?

Just Dell It

The NYT has an article on Dell this week. It isn't really that remarkable - Dell has been covered a kajillion times by every business rag out there and this piece is not much different. What strikes me everytime I read a piece like this is how far off base the CEOs of Sun and HP sound when they attack Dell for not being innovative. Sure, Dell produces pretty unremarkable products but they are incredibly innovative when it comes to driving costs down and that is the way innovations are spread across a large population.

Get off my computer

That Microsoft is finally taking spyware seriously is a good thing. For too long, they have turned a blind eye to this problem. However, charging people for this software is probably not a good move - it really opens up the charge of selling insecure softeare and charging consumers for an adequate level of protection. Not good PR and certainly not keeping with the kinder, gentler face of the "new" Microsoft.

Finally

It's taken years and millions of lives but finally Peoplesoft has been saved from themselves by the majestic kingdom that is Oracle. Long live the king!

Pretty Incredible

I saw The Incredibles yesterday with my daughter. I really liked it quite a bit. The animation was nifty (but not quite as incredible as Nemo - no pun intended) and the story was very compelling for adults and kids alike. One of the more interesting things to me were the slight objectivist overtones presented in a light hearted way.

Another reason for ear plugs

The NYT has an article on cell phone use in planes. I'm sure this will happen eventually, but I can't imagine how annoying it is going to be to have to sit next to one end of a conversation for 4 hours on a cross-country flight. I always bring ear-plugs in the event I'm sitting in proximity to an unhappy child. I guess I will be using them more often.
